SAN-DOW BROADCASTING OUTREACH PROGRAM STATEMENT
( aka. The Mississippi Radio Group: WWMS, WZLQ, WSYE, WELO)
The stations of San-Dow Broadcasting continue to aggressively recruit for all open positions. Each opening is distributed to at least 5 universities in Northeast Mississippi. We participated in two different Job Fairs in 2008. We advertised these Job Fairs on all 4 radio stations, as well as, attended both of them. One was at the University of Mississippi in Tupelo. The other one was put on by the Community Development Foundation in Tupelo. Both the General Manager and the Regional Manager of the Mississippi Radio Group interviewed perspective candidates.
In addition to the attached recruitment sources, we place job openings on www.allaccess.com and send recruitment letters to various sources in Northeast Mississippi, including the local chapter of the NAACP. The recruitment of women and minorities continues to be very important to our company.
INITIATIVE 1: On January 30, 2008 all 4 stations of the Mississippi Radio Group participated and publicized the BUSINESS TO BUSINESS EXPO put on by the Tupelo Community Development Association. This event is host to approximately 80 businesses who interact and network with each other, as well as, potential clients. The Mississippi Radio Group uses this event to prospect for qualified employees who might be looking for a career in Broadcasting. Many community residents attend the free event to meet business leaders who might be looking to expand their staff. This is our second year to participate in this event.
INITIATIVE 2: April 10, 2008 the stations of the Mississippi Radio Group participated and publicized the Job Fair at the University of Mississippi Tupelo Campus. Present to represent the Mississippi Radio Group were , Steve Drumm (Ops Manager), and Richard Chism (On-Air) and Jean Mooneyhan (Promotions Director)). The Mississippi Radio Group was the only broadcast media company participating in the event. Time was donated, as well as, a Live Remote Broadcast to talk about the event and let students know we were on campus to interview students who might be interested in a career in Broadcasting. As always, the University of Mississippi Tupelo Campus is appreciative of our involvement in their Job Fair. 8 interviews took place at this event.
INITIATIVE 3: May 23, 2008 the stations on the Mississippi Radio Group participated and publicized the Community Development Foundation Job Fair. Present to represent the Mississippi Radio Group were the GM, Brenda Bebout, the Promotions Director, Jean Mooneyhan, and 3 sales people who were valuable in letting the interviewees know what it was like working in the radio business. Our time was donated on air to publicize the event and a Live Remote Broadcast was done on WWMS to help people know about the event. The Community Development Foundation is very appreciative of our involvement in the Job Fair. Over a 7 hour period 41 interviews were given. A diverse group of potential employees were given the opportunity to learn about the broadcast industry.
NEW HIRE EEO REPORT SUMMARY 2008
1. Matt Wyatt, full-time, hired on 8/1/08 as a Sales Account Executive and Sports Director. Matt was working for the local NBC affiliate TV station in Tupelo. He was not happy there and had heard of our company and sought us out. We were not actively recruiting for any positions at the time Matt contacted us. The Mississippi Radio Group did not have a Sports Department at the time Matt talked to us. He explained what he could do to help make the MRG a better organization. There are a few times when no position is open in a company, but a person shows up with so much potential the you "find" a place for them on your team. This is what happened with Matt Wyatt. We were not looking or actively recruiting, but created a place because of what Matt could bring to our company. There was no posting or active recruitment done for this newly created position.
2. Kim Graham, full-time, hired on 2/20/08 as a Sales Account Executive. Our search included recruitment ads on WWMS, WSYE, WZLQ, and WELO, as well as, letters to our recruitment sources which includes several colleges and universities and the NAACP in Tupelo. Kim found out about the position after hearing a recruitment ad on WSYE.
